Registering to Become a Console Developer
When choosing to develop for console, you will have to purchase a GameMaker Enterprise subscription at a Monthly or Yearly cost.
The process for becoming a registered developer differs by Console and information how to become a registered developer for each supported console platform can be found below:
Nintendo Switch
To become an authorized Nintendo Switch developer, please sign up at https://developer.nintendo.com.
The next step is to contact the Nintendo Regional offices at developers@nintendo.eu if you are based in Europe or Australia and thirdpartypublisher@noa.nintendo.com if you are based in the USA or elsewhere, to pitch your project and seek authorization to become a Nintendo Switch developer.
Once you have been approved as a developer, you should register your request via Nintendo’s GameMaker middleware web page. Please note, you will be required to sign in to your Nintendo Developer account to access this page.
PlayStation
To gain access to the PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5* exports, you first need to request to become a PlayStation Partner. You can sign up here. This gives you access to everything you need from Sony Computer Entertainment (ordering dev kits, downloading SDKs and tools, etc).
Once you have done this and have access to SCE DevNet, you will need to log in to the DevNet website and go to:
- Development -> Tools & Middleware
- Click Tools & Middleware directory
- Find GameMaker Studio in the Engine Category and click "Confirm developer status"
- Finally, click "Confirm status"
Please note: PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®5 are the only Sony exports available in GameMaker. Legacy systems are not supported.
This will notify us via email and we shall then contact you through the Helpdesk system.
When we contact you, if you have a GameMaker Account associated with the same email address you have registered with as a Sony developer, we'll apply the relevant licensing to that account.
If you do not have a GameMaker Account associated with the same email address you have registered with as a Sony developer we will ask you to create a GameMaker Account or let us know of an existing GameMaker Account.
Please note that you must not report PlayStation-specific comments/bugs in any public forum, as per your agreement with the console platform holder.
Xbox
To gain access to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S** exports you first need to sign up to the ID@Xbox program. You can sign up here. This gives you access to everything you need from Microsoft (ordering dev kits, downloading SDKs and tools, etc).
Once you have signed up and have been approved, you then need to contact us at GameMaker by creating a support ticket.
To speed up this process please include the following:
- Name
- E-mail Address
- Company Name
- Which Xbox version you are requesting access to (note being an approved Xbox One developer does not automatically mean you are an approved Xbox Series X|S developer)
Please note: The details above need to be as per your ID@Xbox details.
Feel free to also include the GameMaker Account e-mail addresses for other team members who also need to be set up.
After this, we further confirm your details with Microsoft, which can take some time.
Please note that you must not report Xbox-specific comments/bugs in any public forum, as per your agreement with the console platform holder.
Please be aware that we cannot issue you with any information until you have been approved by Microsoft, so please make sure everything has been set up before contacting us.
